9/21/2020 Marketing News - TikTok Ban Update
Over the weekend, President Trump gave his blessing to a deal that would give Oracle and Walmart a combined 20% stake in a new company called TikTok Global, which would be headquartered in the United States and operate the app.
If you count U.S. venture capital firms such as Sequoia, General Atlantic, and Tiger Management, then about 53% of TikTok Global’s shares will be held by either American investors or two American companies, Oracle and Walmart.
Additionally Americans will hold four out of the five seats on TikTok Global’s board, with ByteDance’s CEO holding the fifth seat.
The Chinese government will still have to approve the deal, thanks to the country’s update to its technology export bans that would require ByteDance to obtain a license from China before it can sell TikTok’s algorithms and AI technology to a U.S. company.

TikTok Ban - 9/18/2020 Marketing Update
The Trump administration said it will restrict access to TikTok on Sunday, Sept. 20.
You'll still be able to use TikTok — if it's already on your phone.
But TikTok will vanish from Google and Apple app stores on Sunday, Sept 20.
That means US users looking to install the app after Sept. 20 won’t be able to do so.
And users who are looking for security patches or other updates won't be able to receive them, under Commerce Department restrictions
Talks are still underway among parties including software company Oracle and Walmart to come up with a plan to rescue TikTok by becoming the app’s trusted technology provider.
TikTop has more than 100 million users in the U.S. and 700 million globally.
Parties have until Nov. 12 to finalize a deal or the administration will fully ban TikTok, White House officials said.
